Marriage on Trial

I don't know if any of you are following the current court case against Proposition 8 but we appear to be doing very well. Please keep praying for the truth to prevail. It is extremely important that marriage as God defined it win in this case because the outcome will effect other states where marriage is under attack. If you want to follow the progress of the case the following blog is planning to give updates twice daily from the Prop 8 legal team.

In addition to our support for this cause, I think it's also important to voice concerns over shows such as "The Bachelor" or the like, whatever type of shows or institutions that also devalue marriage. MTV's absolutely terrible for this (news flash!) and so far, one of the strongest arguments for same-sex marriage has been that the 21st century does not consider matrimony special, what with "irreconcilable differences", extra-marital affairs amongst politicians, "Temptation Island", Las Vegas quickie weddings and so on. How can we argue that same-sex marriage would devalue marriage if we ourselves cannot make it valuable either? That's a sound argument.

I actually had a conversation with a same-sex marriage supporter and he agreed with me on this: wouldn't it be wonderful if, in order to be married in California, or America, or wherever, you had to do the Engaged Encounter course? Even if they offered a secularized version, so to speak, so that it would be applicable to non-Catholics, the skills you learn on that weekend are priceless and can definitely strengthen a relationship (or otherwise, break up a couple before they get married, which could be a very tough thing, but a blessing that it happened now rather than later). Heterosexual couples need to take marriage seriously too!

Kat you should make this into a blog post. I have been thinking we need a post about "The Bachelor" for a while.
