Ok - so I am a Real Simple Magazine enthusiast. And I was very surprised to see in that last edition (Jan. 2009) on their monthly page of lists these: 5 Secret wishes of MEN - 1- Telling his boss exactly how he feels. 2- A spouse who is better in bed. 3- A spouse who makes more money. 4- More kids. 5- Separate vacations.
5 Secret wishes of WOMEN - 1- A spouse who makes more money. 2- Plastic surgery. 3- Telling her boss exactly how she feels. 4- More kids. 5- Separate bathrooms.
Now - the fact that there are goofy wishes on both lists could make for it's own conversation: separate vacations, separate bathrooms, please.. (Just go ahead and TELL your boss how you feel! I did. Of course, I'm now a stay-at-home mom. hmm...)
What I was really surprised at was that BOTH lists had "more kids". And that men and women want them "as much" as the other, both placing it at #4. So why aren't people having more kids??? It's a secret desire of both (well, at least of these 2,600 women and men who were polled). It's sad that such a beautiful desire is seen as something to be ashamed of, something to be hidden.
If only people would have the strength to voice their desires - even if just to their own spouses. What happiness to be had!
That is so cool! I find it incredible how many older adults vocally regret not having more kids. Being that my husband and I are starting our family at a young age (according to social norms in our area), I've had several people mention to me that they wish they would have had more. So for all young married couples-- don't be afraid, seize the day, and make some babies! :)
