Time to Grow up

Did you know that Obama's new health plan includes health coverage for young adults up to 26 years of age living with their parents? You can read an article about it here. I tend to agree that these are unnecessary costs that undermine our generations' ability to grow up and become independent contributors to society.

I found this especially interesting since one of the criticisms of an abortion-funding restrictions on the health reform bill was that more children being born means higher health care costs. It is terribly saddening that abortion is being seen by politicians as a cost-cutting measure.

What about the value and contributions that each new human being will bring to society? Of course, by encouraging new generations to depend on their parents for so long, it is easy to perceive the young as the problem...

Completely agree! Did you know that in Italy, about 7 out of 10 people 21-35 still live with their parents!?! (This may be slightly wrong, I heard it on the radio, and so don't have the numbers in front of me.)

But I did read a book about Italy about how most people are considered "young upstarts" if they buy a house before 40 and most people do not expect their first promotion until age 50. 50!

No wonder they're not having kids - by the time they've moved out and gotten a job, etc. they're almost too old to have them.

What a world!
