Modest Swimsuits

I am having trouble finding a swimskirt. I would just forget swimsuits altogether because I really don't swim anyway, but I have to get in with my sons, ages 2 1/2 and 1, this summer. I wouldn't say that I am picky, but I do want a skirt that is longer than mid-thy. The only maternity skirts I have found are short and therefore not modest at all. I was just wondering if anyone has advice on what to do or where to shop?

The dress dare is going fine for me. The chilly weather in Southern California was challenging, but I stayed strong and wore my dress and leggings proudly. I wake up in the morning looking forward to what I am going to wear that day even though I only have a few choices. The only reactions I've seen are definitely positive, mostly compliments from my husband and friends about my cute outfit for the day. I can't say that I will wear skirts or dresses everyday from now on, but I think that they will become more of a normal wardrobe for me especially when it is warm.

I just ordered some patterns from a little family-owned company for very modest swimwear. I am thinking about making swimsuits to sell to friends in our Church community. There are a few websites out there, but the one from which I'm purchasing is www.fashionablymodestpatterns.com
I liked one in Canada better (simply-modest.com), but the shipping is outrageous. Just google modest swimwear and see where it takes you. And if you decide to make your own, keep in mind there are cheap swim fabrics and better quality ones - definitely go with better quality.

Hi Cookie! :)
As someone who has worn swimskirts the last few years I have a few suggestions for you. First off, I love Lands End. They are my go-to for suits not just for myself but my girls too. Well, actually I got the baby's swim skirt at One Step Ahead. Anyways, LE have adjustable swim skirts which allow you to determine the length which I like. A draw back to the skirts are that once you are in water it will float up a bit! Other than that I have no complaints. Also, I always keep a coverup skirt or towel nearby so that I can cover up right away. And when going to the beach I usually where a skirt anyways. Haven't done a water park yet, so I have no suggestions for that! :) Good luck with your search!

There is actually a link on our blog link page for http://www.reyswimwear.com. I know a few of the authors of our blog have swimsuits by Jessica Rey. They have different colors and styles! I haven't purchased one myself but I only go swimming maybe once a season so I just grab a cheap one piece at Target or someplace like that....

I too have struggled to find a modest maternity swimsuit, so I resorted to making my own. I found a halter top tankini on clearance at Target that I added a strip of fabric to across the v-neck to avoid cleavage. I then took the straps for the neck and made them shoulder straps, and then added fabric to make little cap-sleeves. It sounds complicated but was actually quite easy and inexpensive!

Another option is http://www.hydrochic.com/shop-swim-bottoms.html Some of their styles are a bit too sporty for me, but they have some new additions with ruffle skirts that are just above the knee or even below the knee.

There's also http://www.limericki.com/, but I don't think they have maternity yet. Their skirts are also a little shorter than I'd prefer, but might be able to be worn lower on the waist to go lower.

I hope you find something, and let me know if you find something that I can help you alter! You can always take it to a local alterations place and the good news is, though an investment, swimsuits last a long time!

Thanks for the comments everyone. Jen, does Lands End work for you when you are pregnant? If so how would I pick a size?

I second the hydrochic suggestion! I bought the all black ruffle skirt and love it! I have always worn swimskirts, but was always frustrated with the short lengths...so hydrochic's skirts are perfect for me.

I really like what I see of the suits here. Colorful, afforable, and stylishly covering! I want to order one of these this summer...

www.dressingforhisglory.com

And here's a different site that has some affordable, sportsy, more-modest-than-mainstream options:

www.slimperfect.com

Hope this helps! God bless you in your pursuit of dignified apparel! :)

Hmmm....I'm sorry that I forgot about the pregnant belly!!! :) I think I would just call LE and ask for suggestions. I have received excellent assistance in the past with sizing in the swimsuits. But the other websites suggested here look promising. Good luck!
